Phil Hardman is the Executive Vice President & General Manager of BBC Studios Asia, leading the business across Channels & Streaming, Content & Co-Production partnerships, Consumer Products & Licensing and Ad Sales & StoryWorks for BBC.com, BBC News and the wider BBC Studios portfolio. With its HQ in Singapore, BBC Studios Asia covers Southeast Asia, India & South Asia, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The teams in this dynamic and innovative market are unified under Phil to deliver the best commercial opportunities for partners across all aspects of the business.
Phil became Senior Vice President and General Manager of BBC Studios Asia in April 2021, responsible for developing and delivering the Asia growth strategy across the Global Media & Streaming businesses in Southeast Asia, India, Japan and Korea. In September 2024, the BBC Studios Greater China region and the Asia Ad Sales team came closer into the region under Phil’s leadership and he was promoted to EVP.
Prior to this role, he was SVP, Commercial Strategy for BBC Studios Asia from June 2020, leading the business growth strategy across the Asia region, including Greater China. This followed a six-month period as the Acting GM for Greater China, alongside his role as SVP, Commercial Operations and Strategy.
Phil joined BBC Studios, then BBC Worldwide, in 2014 to be the Financial Controller for Asia. He first joined the BBC in an internal audit role before later joining BBC Studios in 2014. Phil is currently Chairman of the Board for the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA).
