Makoto Kimura’s professional journey has seen him evolve from working at a TV station to an animation production company. He has produced several popular anime, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man, working on both the investment and production side of anime. He is the founder of Blue Rights Co., Ltd, a new anime planning company, in April 2024.  Blue Rights is engaged in the production of televised and theatrical anime, as well a range of entertainment outside anime, such as manga, novels, music, music videos, events, commercials, and products. It prioritizes planning and production over animation production. Kimura is also serving as representative director. Kimura established Blue Rights in response to the increasing fanbase and demand of anime globally.

 

Prior to Blue Rights, Kimura was with MAPPA since 2018, a leading Japanese animation studio. Aside from directing and producing, he was also a rights management director, in which he was responsible for financing and licensing anime. Prior to MAPPA, Kimura worked at anime planning and production company Twin Engine, and he also produced anime for Fuji TV's Noitanima late-night anime programming block starting in 2007.
